The students started their second day at the workshop by discussing the demonstration round they saw the previous evening. Due to the complexity of the round, the students got a first hand look at some of the difficulties judges have in adjudicating rounds, and hopefully got some perspective that rounds they think are clear when they are debating, might not be so lucid to the judge. Afterward, all workshop students attended a lecture on globalization given by Josh Anderson. The lecture gave the students a better understanding of economics and trade. After lunch, students met in labs to discuss debating as the affirmative. An article group followed lunch. Later on in lab, Lorena and Becca, our two policy converts, were pleasantly surprised
to find out the differences between plan texts and LD cases were only superficial. In the afternoon, the lab split up with half the students going to the computer lab, and the other half visiting the computer lab. It started to pour down buckets, just in time for the trek to dinner. In the evening, the day concluded with students learning strategies for when they debate on the negative. The students have accomplished a lot in only two days but between cases, lab assignments, and article groups, the students still have plenty to do.
